A walk on the wild side at Selwo
Come to the Costa del Sol and get up close and personal with wildlife in a way designed to enthrall the whole family.
If you love the idea of going on safari then Selwo Adventure Park is a must-see for any family looking for a day out with a difference.
The park is home to more than 2,000 semi-free roaming animals from all over the world, living in a natural habitat, and is heavily involved in a conservation, research and education programme.
Here at Selwo you can imagine you are in the heart of deepest Africa, as you gaze at gentle giraffes, admire great bears and stare at the King of the Jungle, his mate and their cubs as they pad around the Lion village. Wander past the flamingoes, crocodiles and monkeys to the first truck station, where you hop aboard an open-sided lorry which takes you through the first set of giant enclosures.
There’s time to stop off and wander around, before clambering aboard a second truck to take you to the summit where a restaurant is perched, with panoramic views for miles around.
On a clear day Gibraltar and the coast of Africa seem almost near enough to reach out and touch. You can take a truck back down to the bottom. Or head off for your own adventure and make your way across wobbly foot and rope bridges, and take an even closer look at the animals. You will see Bengal tigers, giraffes, red pandas, bison, elephants, lions and wolves amongst a myriad of wild creatures – all being carefully cared for and protected in this wildlife haven.
There are plenty of other activities too so check out exhibition and feeding times on arrival. Head to the falconry display and marvel at these splendid birds, walk through Europe’s largest aviary, or hop on a camel.
The park is just a 40 minute drive from CLC Club La Costa World here on the Costa del Sol, head in the direction of Estepona on the A7 coastal road and take the Km 162.5 exit.
Dolphin’s delight at Selwo Marina
Selwo is not just about the big cats, monkeys and other animals from the jungle. Visit the Selwo Marina at Arroyo de la Miel, Benalmadena and watch the spectacular dolphin show, laugh at the antics of the parrots, macaws and cockatoos in their own theatre show, and swim with a sea lion if you dare!
You know you are in the sunny Costa del Sol, but you will shiver as you visit the Penguinarium, built to create the “Brrr!” factor, and reached through an ice tunnel. Here you can see different varieties of these popular creatures going about their daily business, under the gaze of fascinated observers.
For CLC Club La Costa World guests the Marina is easily reached within half an hour, by taking the autovia towards Malaga and leaving on exit 222.
Enquire at your resort about the special admission ticket, which offers a combined price for the Marina, the Adventure Park, and the Telecabina – the swinging cable cars seen from the autovia which take you to the very top of the mountain behind Benalmadena. Here you can enjoy falconry displays and walk along the network of country paths.
